The 2020 Formula One season which was eagerly-anticipated has been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

We rank the top 10 drivers, who are expected to compete in the 2020 campaign.

10. Kimi Räikkönen - Alfa Romeo

The Finnish driver, who won the 2007 Formula One Drivers' Championship, rejoined Sauber at the end of the 2018 season as the team changed its name to Alfa Romeo just before the new campaign started.

Räikkönen had a great first half of the 2019 season, having scored 31 points before the summer break, but he finished 12th in the Drivers' Championship with 43 points, but he is expected to push for a better position in the new season.

9. Alexander Albon - Red Bull

The British driver finished his debut season (2019) in Formula One 8th in the standings with 92 points and is expected to match his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen in order to secure his future with the team.

Albon, 24, raced for Toro Rosso for the first half of 2019, before being promoted to Red Bull for the second half of the season, replacing Pierre Gasly who returned to Toro Rosso.

“He’s done a very good job considering he’s not sat in the car previously, he’s got in, he’s got a very good feel," Red Bull team principal Christain Horner said about Albon on Formula One website.

“There are quite a lot of differences to the Toro Rosso that he’s had to adjust to… you can tell he’s very bright, he’s intelligent and he’s asking all the right questions so I’d say it’s been a positive first day.”

8. Lando Norris - McLaren

The British driver caught the eye in his debut season (2019) in Formula One and was rewarded with a multi-year contract to stay with McLaren for the 2020 season, and beyond.

Norris, whose speed in qualifying was fantastic throughout the long campaign, finished in 11th place in the championship with 49 points and 2020 will be a big year for the 20-year-old starlet.

7. Carlos Sainz Jr - McLaren

The Spanish driver, who is the son of double World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz, joined McLaren for the 2019 season, replacing Fernando Alonso and he did not disappoint.

Sainz Jr often finished strongly as the best of the rest behind the top three teams and ultimately, finished sixth on the drivers' championship standings and is expected to push for a top-five finish in the new season.

6. Daniel Ricciardo - Renault

The Australian driver, who has finished third in the Drivers' Championship standings (twice), had a poor start to the 2019 season with retirements in the first two races.

Ricciardo ended a relatively disappointing season for Renault in 9th place in the championship, with 54 points, but he has what it takes to produce an improved performance this year and push for a top-four finish.

5. Sebastian Vettel - Ferrari

The German driver is a four-time Formula One world champion, but he has struggled in the last few seasons having finished fifth in the 2019 campaign behind his new teammate Charles Leclerc.

Leclerc became only the second teammate in Vettel's career to outscore him across a season, after Ricciardo in 2014, but the 32-year-old still has the speed and talent that has seen him win four championships.

4. Charles Leclerc - Ferrari

The Monégasque driver was a revelation in his first season (2019) with Ferrari and became the first non-Mercedes driver to win the Pole Position Award, having recorded the most pole positions of any driver that season, with seven.

Leclerc, who is a highly-rated 22-year-old driver, ended the 2019 season in 4th place in the championship with 264 points, ahead of teammate Vettel and is expected to challenge for a top-two finish in the 2020 campaign.

"I think Charles surprised everyone, not just me. He is very fast and has managed to handle the pressure all season long," Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto said about Leclerc on f1only.fr.

"When we started the season, the situation was different. We had a young pilot and an experienced pilot. But if you look at the last races, they were quite free to run and that's where we start.

"The 2019 book is closed and we are starting a new one. We have already started a new trip and we need patience. We are doing everything we can, because the fans deserve victories."

3. Max Verstappen - Red Bull

The Belgian driver holds several records in the Formula One as he is the youngest driver (17 years, 166 days in 2015) to compete in Formula One and also became the youngest-ever winner of a Grand Prix at the age of 18.

Verstappen finished the 2019 season in 3rd place in the championship with 278 points, the best result of his career thus far. He is destined to mount a serious challenge for the drivers' title in the new season.

2. Valtteri Bottas - Mercedes

The Finnish driver has gradually improved in Formula One having finished in the top five positions in the last three years - establishing himself as one of the best drivers in the world in the process.

Bottas finished the 2019 season in 2nd place in the championship with 326 points, the most successful season of his career to date. 2020 could be the year he finally clinches his maiden drivers' championship.

1. Lewis Hamilton - Mercedes

The British superstar remains the King of Formula One and is considered by some to be the greatest driver of all time having won six world championships - the second-most of all time behind Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton is the reigning world champion having clinched his sixth drivers' crown at the 2019 United States Grand Prix with two races remaining. There is no doubt that he has what it takes to secure a record-equalling seventh drivers' championship in the new season.
