Yamaha rider Fabian Quartararo will be keen to maintain his lead at the top of the 2021 Riders' standings by winning the Italian MotoGP on May 30.

The French star has blown hot and cold in the current campaign, but he has secured three podium finishes in the first five races.

Quartararo, who won this season's Doha MotoGP and Portuguese MotoGP races, finished third in the most recent race which was the French MotoGP on May 16.

Ducati rider Jack Miller won the French MotoGP and he was followed by his teammate Johann Zarco.

Quartararo is now placed at the top of the Riders' standings and he is among the favourites to win this season's MotoGP world title.

The Ducati duo of Francesco Bagnaia and Zarco are placed second and third respectively heading into the Italian MotoGP.

Quartararo will extend his lead at the top of the standings if he wins this weekend's race as he is currently a point above second-placed Bagnaia.

Quartararo says he is feeling good having undergone surgery on his right arm ahead of the French MotoGP where he finished third.

“It feels really good because when you think back to Jerez it’s a big shame because I was there to win because I was feeling so great,” Quartararo said.

“And when you have this surgery, it was tough to accept but then you say ‘ok, it happens’. We arrived here, straight away in the dry conditions in FP2 I felt good – a bit of pain.

“And in the race maybe it’s even better that we have this condition that we don’t make 27 laps at the limit. So, honestly after the surgery and everything, to be on the podium is amazing.”

Ducati are placed at the top of Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Yahama and Suzuki respectively.
