The race was won by Joan Mir of Suzuki, while KTM rider Pol Espargaro secured a third-place finish.

Alex Rins of Suzuki finished second at the European Grand Prix where Suzuki enjoyed a successful weekend as they had two riders on the podium.

Mir is now placed at the top of the riders' standings ahead of Quartararo and Rins with two races left in the 2020 season.

Quartararo is 37 points behind Mir, who will be crowned 2020 MotoGP world champion if he wins the Valencian Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old Quartararo says his inconsistency has hurt his chances of winning this year's championship having failed to secure a podium finish in the last four races.

“Of course, I lose the championship today [at the European Grand Prix]. Then it’s Aragon 1 where we had, I would not say a fight, but we wanted to start Aragon 1 with less pressure in the front [tyre]," Quartararo said.

"But with the Yamaha protocol they said no and I had the worst race of my life in Aragon, where I got zero points when I actually had the pace to fight for top five, six. There was the second race where we lose the championship.

“I think it’s important to finish in the best way as possible, but we will need to change many things next year to make it work because it looks like the other factories work a little bit better than our factory.”

Suzuki are now placed at the top of Manufacturers' Championship standings with 188 points.

Ducati and Yamaha are placed second and third with 181 and 163 points respectively on the standings.
