Proline resilient, KCCA fire blanks in continental ties

The two Ugandan football sides KCCA and Proline, featuring in the Caf Confederation Cup played out first leg draws that could have contrasting effects on their ties in going into the return legs this weekend.

Proline will definitely be the happier of the two teams going by how their game panned out and the eventual result.

Proline

This included twice coming from behind to force a 2-2 draw against Libyan side Al Nasr in the first leg played in Alexandria, Egypt because of insecurity in the hosts’ home country.

Al Mehdi Moataz gave Al Nasr a 13th minute lead before Proline leveled the scores through captain Mustafa Mujuzi’s trademark thumping free kick with virtually the last kick of the opening half.

The hosts then edged ahead through a Khaled Magdi 68th  minute penalty for a handball from Richard Ajuna.
But in a show of resilience, Proline refused to bow to the hosts and again levelled 10 minutes after Al Nasr’s second goal when Bright Anukani connected with a Hamis Kiiza cross.

The result means Proline can qualify for the group stages at the first time of asking with a win or 1-all and goalless draw results. In Kampala, there was more resilience on show from a Ugandan side although this time it came at the defensive end of the pitch.

Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago ensured KCCA avoided defeat in a goalless draw against Algerian side AC Paradou after coming out on top in several one on one situations with the opposition attackers.

This helped KCCA stay in the tie and after being restricted to mainly long range shot could have nicked a win with Mike Mutyaba and Allan Okello forced fine saves from the Paradou goalkeeper.

KCCA must now find a way of getting a goal in the return leg also due this Sunday with any score draw enough for them to progress to the group stages of the Confederation Cup.
