While the future of sport remains changed forever due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, sport looks set to finally be making a return even though how we approach it - especially for the foreseeable future - will be different.

The German Bundesliga set the tone for top-tier sports' return and while fans were not allowed to attend last weekend's fixtures it did provide some relief for those deprived of sport over the last few months.

In England, the governing body has set a mid-June target for the Premier League's return and while six people from free different clubs had tested positive for the coronavirus out of a sample of 748 individuals this week, those in power remain confident that Liverpool will be able to win their first league title in three decades on the field of play and that the 2019/20 season will be able to be played out on grass.

In Spain and Italy - two of the worst affected countries - the weekend of the 12-14th of June has been earmarked for a possible return to action while France, Scotland, Belgium and several African nations including Kenya have decided to cancel their season with those atop the respective divisions announced as champions.

The Dutch Eredivisie has simply declared their season null and void, but in Nigeria reports suggest that there will be gold at the end of the rainbow with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confident that the league season could be finalised. South Africa's Premier Soccer League (PSL) are also eager to finish the season with a July restart the most likely.

In other sporting codes, the 2020 Formula One season could finally get underway in Austria on the 5th of July while the NBA is hoping to return to the court early next month.
