Portugal eyeing Algeria scalp

The Portuguese are yet to find the right winning formula heading to the global showpiece in Russia and will hope to get this right on Thursday.

Portugal is fresh from two draws in their past matches as they drew 0-0 against Belgium and were also held to a goalless draw by Tunisia back in May.

This will be the reigning European champions’ final international friendly as they head to the World Cup in Russia and they will hope to end their preparations with a win.

For the Desert Foxes, they have failed to reach the global tournament this year, but will also be gunning for a victory come Thursday.

Coach Rabah Madjer will look at Riyad Mahrez for inspiration to cause an upset against the Europeans, especially after a poor run in recent times.

They beat Cape Verde Islands 3-2 at the beginning of the month, but were defeated by Saudi Arabia prior to that clash.

Meanwhile, the two nations will be meeting for the first time in a competitive match as the Portuguese will hope to fine tune their attack ahead of their World Cup opener against Spain on June15.
