Poor Express streak worries Bbosa

Express Football Club is in dire need of recovery. The quest for a seventh Uganda Premier League (UPL) is on the wane following a poor streak.

A 2-1 defeat away to Bright Stars at the Kavumba Recreation Centre on Tuesday condemned Express to their second loss of the season in 19 outings.

And whereas that may not be worrying, it is the form christened by two wins in the last seven league games that will now worry coach Wasswa Bbosa.

In Kavumba, Express without injured striker George Senkaaba welcomed back center-back Murushid Juuko and they took the lead through Ibrahim Kayiwa towards half-time.

Kayiwa headed in from a free-kick delivered by Issa Lumu but Express were on their tenterhooks when they conceded a penalty after a handball in the area.

Luckily, custodian Mathias Muwanga saved the effort but Bright Stars maintained their resolve in the second half.

The Betway-sponsored side let go of their lead inside the last 15 minutes, conceding Samuel Kayongo’s effort on 76 minutes before Simon Ssemayange again assisted Emmanuel Loki for the winner four minutes from time.

Express’ wait to hit the 40-point mark continues until they visit log leaders Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Friday.

But Bbosa will be encouraged by the fact that Vipers dropped at home for the first time in a goalless draw with Wakiso Giants and have 43 points, six more than Express.

Should Express drop points at Kitende, the title could slip further out of the Red Eagles' reach, leaving pressure on the squad which had a rather glitzy start to the season.
