Planning keeping Express FC aloft after lockdown extension

Sports in Uganda has been muted for now almost 40 days ever since President Yoweri Museveni announced the initial directives of a lockdown on March 18.

This mode of response in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic has disorganised several sports clubs and institutions.

Express Football Club has not had action since beating Maroons 1-0 on March 5 in the Uganda Premier League (UPL).

The management at Express hoped things would normalize after the first 32 days but Museveni extended the lockdown by 21 days to May 5.

That new development last week left many sports entities at test.

“Tricky, as we have to re-plan,” said Express FC CEO Hamza Jjunju. “In terms of football competition, we await direction to be availed by UPL & Fufa.”

Jjunju says it is the key planning that is helping to keep Express aloft during this tough period.

“Internally, individualised player training programs are on-going and are monitored by the technical team,

"Management, at the moment, March salaries were paid and as management pushing hard to meet all financial obligations as per contracts.

"We are working on financial resource mobilisation and all other aspects are moving on as earlier planned,” he added.

With five matches to go, Express currently lies ninth on 16-team log with 31 points from 25 outings.
