Pirates Stun Kobs, Heathens Pip Buffaloes

Uganda Cup Semis Results:

Pirates 25-23 Kobs
Heathens 3-0 Buffaloes

Buzz Pirates booked their place in this year's with a 25-23 win over Betway Kobs Saturday afternoon.
Ivan Magomu’s last gasp penalty ensured Pirates return to the finals for the second consecutive year. It will be a repeat of last year’s final with Hima Cement Heathens defeating Toyota Buffaloes 3-0 in the other semi. Kobs had proceedings going their way in the opening minutes of the game as Alhaji Manano intercepted Ivan Magomu’s pass to score the first try of the game.

Hima Heathens in Finals

James Ijongat drilled the conversion through the posts for Ronnie Lutakome's side to lead 7-0. Justin Kimono, on his return, crossed the white line as Kobs took control of the game. Conrad Wanyama converted a penalty while Musa Muwonge powered over the line for Pirates to cut the deficit to 10 points (10-20) at half time. Isaac Rujumba scored a try in the second half while Bobby Musinguzi's side were also awarded a penalty try in the second half.

With the game in Kobs hands at 23-22, Pirates were awarded a penalty and team captain Magomu, with the last chance of the game, splitted the posts to win it for Pirates. Defending champions Heathens were far from their best but held on to defeat Buffaloes 3-0. Chris Lubanga scored a penalty early in the game and it turned out to be the only score. Despite exerting lots of pressure on Heathens, Buffaloes struggled to execute in the final half.

Edgar Lemerigar's side chose to ignore penalties and go for the 5-pointer but it was all in vain. Pirates will face Heathens this weekend as they search for their second Uganda Cup title. Heathens have won the last four editions of the tournament.
