2019 Copa America final
Brazil vs Peru
Sunday 7 July 2019
Estadio do Maracana, Rio de Janeiro
Kick-off 23:00
Peru will look to win the Copa America for the first time in more than 40 years when they take on Brazil in the final at Estadio do Maracana on Sunday 7 July, kick-off at 23:00.
Peru last won the South American championship in 1975. Since then, their best performances have been third-place finishes in 2011 and 2015.
At this tournament they have had to dig deep to stay in contention. Their Group A campaign was a tough one which included a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Brazil, and they only finished in third spot.
Fortunately for Los Incas, their record was good enough to earn a place in the quarterfinals and coach Ricardo Gareca’s side have grown in stature since then.
They first eliminated Uruguay (the all-time Copa America record winners) by holding them to a 0-0 draw in Salvador before edging through on penalties.
Next up was reigning, two-time champions Chile. Peru produced a fantastic performance in the second semifinal in Porto Alegre to hammer La Roja 3-0, thanks to goals from Edison Flores, Yoshimar Yotun and Paolo Guerrero.
