Onduparaka Maintain Position At End Of Match-Day 24

Much was made of Onduparaka’s state of affairs on and off the pitch last month.

The Betway Sponsored club lost their longstanding home unbeaten record to SC Villa, a result which was shortly followed by the sacking of head coach Livingstone Mbabazi.

However since then, the club has responded with two wins including a 3-0 home result over Masavu as well as a 1-0 away win over Proline.

Left footed winger Vianney Ssekajugo has been key to that renaissance scoring a brace against Masavu as well the solitary strike in the defeat of Proline to take his league tally to five goals.

On Monday, they opened up match-day 24 proceedings with a goalless draw against Maroons in a result that put them level on 37 points with fourth placed Kirinya-Jinja after 24 games.

Yesterday, the latter squandered an opportunity to edge ahead of the Caterpillars after falling to a 2-0 defeat to URA in a game in which Charles Ssempa and Hood Mulikyi scored for the visitors.

The game was one of six played last evening including Villa stretching their lead at the top of the Azam Uganda Premier League with their ninth 1-0 win this season.

Martin Kizza got the goal, his ninth in the league to improve Villa to 49 points after 23 games.

The tally is six points ahead of KCCA who have played 21 games but are in action on Thursday away to Maroons.

Vipers are meanwhile level on points with KCCA but squandered an opportunity to put more pressure on their rivals after they were held to a goalless draw away to struggling Bul.

Elsewhere, striker Nelson Senkatuka leads the scoring charts after scoring his 11th goal of the season in a 2-2 draw at home to Soana.

The bottom of the table saw six-time league winners Express profiting most from two relegation six pointers.

They edged wasteful Mbarara 1-0 on a soggy Wankulukuku pitch courtesy of substitute David Ndihabwe’s volley.

The result which included a missed penalty from their substitute Joseph Ssemujju, allowed Express to move within one point of their day’s opponents and two clear of Proline and Masavu the only teams just below them.

This is after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw in Bugonga with Gift Ali’s goal cancelled out by Arthur Ssemazi’s 82nd minute leveller.
