There were a number of frustrating elements to the Caterpillars’ Tuesday’s goalless draw with visiting Mbarara at the Betway Greenlight Stadium.

The silver lining however that many missed after the end of the club’s ninth game in the 2017/2018 Uganda Premier League season was that the club moved to second position, a point behind leaders Police. Many however feel it could and should have been more. Onduparaka were playing a newly promoted club and still hold the only unbeaten record in the league. Instead they were left frustrated, first by the heavy downpour in Arua and then by dodgy opponents.

Ondu

Coaches Livingstone Mbabazi and Leo Adraa kept faith with Karim Ndugwa upfront with the striker supported by Kabon Livin, Gadaffi Anguzu and Vianney Ssekajugo. They were however unable to break the deadlock with Leku replacing Kabon after crowd favourite Ezra Bida came on for Ndugwa. Mbarara were reduced to 10 men 15 minutes from time when Ibrahim Orit was shown marching orders. The result was the second successive goalless draw and third for Onduparaka at their home ground that also includes two wins. They have accumulated 16 points after nine games, one behind leaders Police.

The other positive from the game was that goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato who kept a number vital saves to keep the Caterpillars in the game continues his remarkable streak at the Betway Greenlight Stadium. The custodian signed from Bright Stars in the off-season, is yet to concede a goal after five home games for a total of seven clean sheets in nine games. Onduparaka return to action on next Wednesday against Bright Stars in Mpererwe.
