Ahead of preparations for the 2016/2017 league campaign, a dismal away form was singled out as the Onduparaka’ s Achilles heel last season.

Onduparaka

The Arua-based club who boast the only unbeaten home record in the league that currently stretches to 18 topflight league games finished with the fourth best home record in the 2016/2017 league campaign. This included eight wins and seven draws for a total of 31 points at the Betway Greenlight Stadium that was only bettered by winners KCCA (40) SC Villa (37) and Vipers (33).

The same could not be said of their away form that only saw them garner a miserable 14 points from three wins in what was the fourth worst record in the 16-team division. Six games into the current campaign, there are signs that the tally will be improved following hefty bonuses offered by sponsors Betway. On Friday the Caterpillars picked up their second win away from home following an entraining 2-1 win over traditional giants Express FC at Wankulukuku.

The result was in addition to the 2-0 win over Maroons with the only blemish thus far coming in a 4-1 reverse to KCCA. Experienced striker Caesar Okhuti is leading from despite having his playing time reduced greatly since the additions of Alfred Leku and Karim Ndugwa. In addition to delivering the win against Maroons with a well taken brace, the striker delivered the Caterpillars’ second away win with a sumptuous strike deep in added time against Express as the game looked destined for a draw.

Express game

The forward received a headed pass from Vianney Ssekajugo, controlling the ball with his left thigh and spinning in the air to deliver an unstoppable left footed volley past goalkeeper Godwin Buule. The strike which settled into the Express custodian’s left hand corner was a perfect end to a match in which Onduparaka appeared the better team for long periods after Alfred Leku had tapped in the opener.

The Caterpillars return to action this weekend in a highly billed clash against Vipers in Arua on Saturday.
