Betway Kobs win Gulu Sevens

Final: Betway KOBs 03-00 Pirates

Betway Kobs defeated Black Pirates 03-00 in the final to win a hotly contested Gulu Sevens in Northern Uganda on Saturday.

The Blue Army was crowned on Saturday at Pece Stadium after yet another triumph in the second leg of the 2021 Guinness National Rugby Sevens Series.

Having won the opening circuit, the Mileke Sevens, Kobs were eager to stretch their lead at the top of the log.

James Ijongat got the only points of the final with a well taken penalty late in the game to settle the contest.

The game was characterized by resilient defending from the two sides and putting points on the board proved tricky on both ends.

Joseph Aredo limped off injured early in the game while Conrad Wanyama was taken off after a tackle from Adrian Kasiito.

Kobs topped Pool A by beating Gulu Elephants, Warriors and Impis.

They then defeated Rams 38-00 in the quarterfinals before whitewashing Warriors 40-00 in the semis.

By collecting 22 points from Gulu, Kobs are now on 44 points and top the log.

Pirates, who have lost two finals to Kobs, remain second on 38 points.
