Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and his Atletico Madrid counterpart Jan Oblak grabbed the limelight during the 2019/20 Spanish La Liga season.

Known for his imposing physique, Courtois was the undisputed starter during the league season, as Real won the coveted La Liga title and Supercopa de España.

Courtois, who has been described as a complete goalkeeper, kept his 17th clean sheet of the La Liga season in a 1-0 away win over Athletic Bilbao in July 2020.

As a result, the 28-year-old Belgium international became the first Real goalkeeper to do so in a single season since Francisco Buyo in the 1994/95 campaign.

Courtois also became the first player since Jose Luis Perez-Paya in 1954 to be crowned champion with both Real and Atletico Madrid.

The former Chelsea goalkeeper won the Zamora Trophy for the third time in his career, after conceding just 20 goals in 34 matches and it was a reward for his excellent displays for Real.

"He [Courtois] has a very big influence. He is our goalkeeper, what he is doing every game is phenomenal," Real coach Zinedine Zidane told a news conference, via AS.

Meanwhile, Oblak was named as Atletico vice-captain at the beginning of the season and it inspired him to break some records.

The Slovenia international broke a club record when he kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 away draw against Villarreal in December 2019.

Oblak broke Atletico legend Abel Resino's record for most clean sheets with his 96th clean sheet in his 169th league game and he continued to impress for the Mattress Makers.

Considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Oblak broke a La Liga record when he kept a clean sheet in a 5-0 away win against Osasuna, his 182nd league game in June 2020.

The 27-year-old became the fastest goalkeeper to achieve 100 clean sheets landmark in La Liga history, breaking an almost 50-year old record of Miguel Reina who did the same in 222 league appearances.

Furthermore, Oblak, who is a tall, athletic, and physically strong shot-stopper, also became the first non-Spanish goalkeeper to keep 100 clean sheets in La Liga history.

Lastly, Oblak played his 250th game for Atletico as his side beat Deportivo Alaves 2-1 in June 2020 and he wrote his name in the club's record books once again.

He has reached the milestone just one week after equalling Jose Francisco Molina as the second goalkeeper with the most appearances in Atletico's history.
