Matchday 8 of 38

West Brom vs Tottenham Hotspur

West Bromwich, England
Sunday, 8 November 2020

Tottenham Hotspur will move to the summit of the 2020-21 English Premier League standings with victory over West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

Spurs are unbeaten in the Premier League since an opening day loss to Everton and moved up to third spot following a 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion last time out. With Leicester City and Liverpool only in action after their 14:00 kick-off, the North London club would go top -- albeit possibly for just a few hours -- with victory on Sunday.

Gareth Bale fired Spurs to all three points in a hard fought match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, prompting Jose Mourinho to call the Premier League the best league in the world.

"We played against a very good team, very well coached with good players that caused us difficulties, that is the way it is," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"I arrived here in 2004, in 2004 there were certain matches on the calendar that a top team knows: 'three points here, three points here and three points there.' Not anymore."

"The Premier League is the best league in the world, not because of the top six but because of every team in the Premier League."

West Brom are yet to win a game this season and the Baggies head into this weekend's round of fixtures in 18th spot on the log standings, having conjured a mere three points following a 2-0 defeat to Fulham.

This will be the first top-flight meeting between the two clubs since 2018 when a late Jake Livermore goal spearheaded the Baggies to a 1-0 win in West Bromwich.
