Novak Djokovic will chase a seventh Australian Open title when he takes on Rafael Nadal in the 2019 Men’s Singles Final at the Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park on Sunday 27 January.

2016 was the last year in which Djokovic claimed the Australian Open title.

As a six-time Australian Open champion (and 14-time Grand Slam winner overall), it’s fair to state that Djokovic has been the dominant force at Melbourne Park in the past decade or so, and he will enter the final as the favourite.

Mitchell Krueger, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Denis Shapovalov, Kei Nishikori (retired) and Lucas Pouille are the players the 31-year-old has defeated en route to this showdown with a long-time rival.

Nadal was an injury worry ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year, but he has shown no sign of any physical ailments and is in fact playing some of the best tennis of his career.

The 32-year-old has thus far beaten James Duckworth, Matthew Ebden, Alex De Minaur, Tomas Berdych, Frances Tiafoe and Stefanos Tsistipas without dropping a set.

This will be a fifth Australian Open final appearance for Nadal.

Nadal and Djokovic’s storied rivalry included a famous Australian Open final in 2012 which the Serbian won 5–7 6–4 6–2 6–7 (5-7) 7–5, while their most recent meeting was another victory for Djokovic at Wimbledon last year, with the epic score line of 6-4 3-6 7-6(9) 3-6 10-8.
