Namibia defeated Kenya Simbas 53-28 to win the
Rugby Africa Gold Cup and automatically qualify for next year's Rugby World Cup in Japan.
Having made light work of all their opponents in the first four games of the championship, Namibia went into the final game with a 3-point advantage over Kenya.
And, despite the good start from Ian Snook's charges, the home side rallied back to defend their championship.
For Uganda Rugby Cranes, their encounter with the Zimbabwe Sables had no effect on their position on the log.
Zimbabwe needed to win to maintain their Africa Rugby Tier 1A status and they did that in a comprehensive 38-18 victory over the Cranes at Kyadondo.
Robert Aziku and Aaron Ofoyrwoth were sent to the sin bin and Zimbabwe led 14-0 early in the game to eliminate fears of dropping to the silver Cup next year.
Robert Masendi’s poor pass was intercepted by Zimbabwe's Brendon Mandivenga for the visitors' third try and they led 19-14 at the break.
Michael Wokorach went over in the second half while Philip Wokorach converted a penalty to cut the deficit to 6 points (18-24).
The resolute Sables would then add two more tries to put the game to bed and condemn Uganda to their third loss of the campaign.
Kenya will have another shot at world cup qualification through a repackage tournament set for November in France. They will face Canada, Germany and Hong Kong in the tournament.
