Ugandan utility player Farouk Miya hopes to hit his season’s target when he returns to action as his club Konyaspor wraps up the Turkish Super Lig at home to Alanyaspor on Saturday.
Miya’s club survived the relegation drop without him as they fought from 3-1 down to defeat second-placed Trabzonspor 4-3 last Sunday.
Now on 36 points after 33 matches, Konyaspor heads into the final game of the season in 13th place, four points clear of the bottom three teams.
But, Miya and company will aim for a strong finish. The Uganda Cranes’ star has become a darling in his first season at the club after making one assist and netting an individual high eight goals thus far from 14 starts in 24 league appearances.
When Miya steps onto the Bulediyesi Stadium pitch, he will be two goals shy of his target. “I had my target from the beginning of the season of 10-15 goals,” he said in a recent chat.
It is important to note that Miya has scored twice the tally by England forward Daniel Sturridge of Trabzonspor.
The Ugandan will aim to join 16 others who have hit double digits thus far.
Alanyaspor is however sixth on the log with 54 points and a win to see them finish a place higher.
