Mexico and the United States will battle for the right to be crowned 2019 Gold Cup champions when they meet in the final at Soldier Field in Chicago on Monday 8 July, kick-off at 04:00.



Mexico’s progress to the final has seen them top Group A with a full haul of nine points from wins over Cuba, Canada and Martinique (racking up 13 goals in the process), before edging past Costa Rica (on penalties after a 1-1 draw) and Haiti (1-0) in their quarterfinal and semifinal respectively.

El Tri do boast two of the tournament’s leading goal scorers, with Raul Jimenez netting five times and Uriel Antuna sitting on four goals. The race for the Golden Boot is currently led by Canada’s Jonathan David, who has six strikes to his name.
 


United States’ tournament thus far has seen them finish top of Group D (with wins over Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and Panama) before edging Curacao 1-0 in the quarterfinals. On Thursday morning they defeated Jamaica in the second semifinal played in Nashville.



In head-to-head stats Mexico and USA have met in 72 previous matches. El Tri have claimed 38 wins compared to 20 for the Stars and Stripes, while 14 games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was a friendly in Nashville in September last year which USA won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Tyler Adams.
