Reigning WBO light middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez will take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a highly anticipated Mexican showdown on Saturday.

Alvarez is ranked as the world's best boxer, pound for pound by BoxRec and the 26-year-old Mexican boxer has an incredible record having won 48 fights, drawn one and lost once. His only defeat in his professional career thus far came against legendary American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, who is now retired, in Paradise, Nevada, U.S.A in September, 2013.
Canelo Alvarez knockout punch against Amir KhanThe current WBC, The Ring and lineal middleweight champion defeated British boxer Liam Smith to win the WBO light middleweight title in his last competitive fight last September. Alvarez's countryman, Chavez Jr is a former WBC middleweight champion. He held the title between 2011 and 2012 and he's the son of retired six-time world boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez.The 31-year-old Chavez Jr boasts a good professional record having won 50 fights, lost two, drawn one, while one fight was registered as no contest because he defeated American Troy Rowland, but he failed a drug test. Last December, he took on German boxer Dominik Britsch in his last competitive fight. Chavez Jr defeated the European fighter in Monterrey Arena, in Monterrey, Mexico. Alvarez and Chavez Jr will be fighting at a catch-weight of 164.5lbs and no official world title on the line.
