Two victories at the start of the 2018 National Basketball League season have got Betway Power fans up in excitement.

The five-time champions opened the season with a 64-56 win over City Oilers last Friday before quickly following it up with an even more comfortable 97-46 rout of Charging Rhino.

Amid the euphoria, Betway Power coach Arnold “Mchuda” Lando has called for calmness particularly with the seven changes made to the current roster.

“We should not get very excited. The team is good but we have to play more games to create more chemistry. We did not execute well on offense. We did not attack the hoop and were careless in possession,” Mchuda said of his team’s opening two performances.

His team showed no fear against the reigning champions City Oilers overturning a 35-29 first half deficit to win the next quarter 14-10.

Unscathed by previous Oilers beatings including a 3-0 playoff semi-final sweep last season, new recruits Stephen Wundi and Brian Sivachi, instigated the turnaround with the former scoring four of his joint game high 15 points to open the third quarter.

Joseph Ikong then added 13 and Fahmy Sebatindira 12 as Power pulled away in the final four minutes.
Power who defeated the Oilers in both regular season games last season have now made it three in three but were swept 3-0 in the best of five semi-final playoff series by the Oilers who continued the trend of never having lost a playoff series.

“In the playoffs many teams tend to face the Oilers with stage fright,” Lando noted of the difference between regular season results and in the playoffs.

James Okello led the scoring with 15 points while Stephen Omony added 11 for the City Oilers who like Betway Power are also chasing a record-equalling sixth league title.

Power however hardly broke a sweat in Sunday’s victory over Charging Rhino with Paul Odong leading all scorers with 19 points on the back of 5 for 10 shooting from three point range. Sulaiman Bbaale added 12 points and rebounds for Betway Power.

The result capped a stimulating opening night to the 2018 season that also saw KIU Titans thrash KCCA and Sharing Youth record a 72-66 overtime win over Our Saviour.  Betway Power return to action on May 23 against Our Saviour.ck
