Match-day 25 turn around leaves Express top of UPL log

There is still a two-point difference separating the top three teams in the Uganda Premier League with five rounds of fixtures remaining to be played.

Unlike at the start of match-day25, it is Express who are now top of the log following an incredible turn of events over the past two days.

These included a 4-0 victory away to Busoga United for the Betway sponsored Red Eagles in which forward Godfrey Lwesibawa notched his first ever hattrick.

There was also time for in-form striker Eric Kambale to notch his eighth goal in five games and take his tally to 13.

The result moved Express to 55 points, one ahead of URA who on Wednesday suffered a 1-0 loss away to a Kyetume side that remained in the third and final relegation spot on the 16-team log.

This was after reigning champions Vipers gave up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to visiting Mbarara City.

“The game wasn’t an easy one. Don’t be fooled by the result," Express head coach Wasswa Bbosa said after the game.

"Busoga is a decent side and they have young players but we managed to catch them on the break and score the goals."

"We’ve been telling the players to be more behind the ball and they did it well."

"We’re now in a good position and now with five games to go, we’re looking at winning each game so that we stay competing,” he added.

The result means Express has now won the last six consecutive league games since losing to Bright Stars in April to ascend to the summit of the league.

Next up for the Red Eagles is a home game against Kitara FC on Friday.
