Premier League 18/19
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur
Monday, August 27th
Old Trafford, Manchester
Kick-off at 20:00 (8pm) GMT
Manchester United welcome Tottenham Hotspur to town in a must-win encounter for both sides at this early stage of the season.
Jose Mourinho was left reeling at United’s lacklustre transfer window after their shock 3-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion last time out, highlighting the Portuguese manager’s plea for another centre-half. Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof – two of Mourinho’s fellow signings – were left hugely exposed against the Seagulls and it remains to be seen whether the backline will be shuffled ahead of the visit of Tottenham. New recruit Diogo Dalot remains sidelined through injury along with the Argentinian duo of Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo, following their respective surgeries. Antonio Valencia and Nemanja Matic could be in line for their first appearances of the campaign while Luke Shaw faces a late fitness test after picking up a knock in training this week.

19/08/2018 – Brighton 3-2 Man United
Spurs will be looking to maintain their stellar start to the season having notched up back-to-back victories over Newcastle United and newly-promoted Fulham respectively. Harry Kane scoring his first-ever goal in August could provide a major platform for the Golden Boot winner at this summers World Cup to reclaim the prize in the
Premier League after Mohammed Salah’s 32-goal haul in 2017/18 sealed the deal. Mauricio Pochettino has no real injury concerns ahead of their trip to the Theatre of Dreams as they ease the likes of Kane, Alli, Trippier, Vertonghen and Alderweireld back to action following extended breaks after all their exploits in Russia.

Tottenham face a tough task ahead of them though on Monday night, having failed to score at Old Trafford since Pochettino took over at the helm. The last three matches there all ended 1-0 to the home side with Spurs last away victory over United coming on New Years Day in 2014 with Emmanuel Adebayor and Cristian Eriksen scoring either side of half-time for the visitors. The last competitive meeting between the pair ended 2-1 to United, in the semi-finals of last season’s FA Cup, as former Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez’ goal helped the Red Devils overcome a 1-0 deficit on route to the final.
