Uganda Cranes’ midfielder Taddeo Lwanga has rebooted his career in a stellar manner and now commands a starting place at his new club Simba SC of Tanzania.
And he will come in handy when Simba hosts record defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt in the Caf Champions League Match Day Two encounter in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
Both Al Ahly and Simba are on three points having won their Group A openers 3-0 and 1-0 respectively against Sudan’s Al-Merrikh and DR Congo’s AS Vita.
And Simba is hoping to maintain the winning start. They have dubbed their encounter against the nine-time champions ‘Total War in Dar’.
“The last time we met here in Dar es Salaam we defeated Al Ahly 1-0 in 2019 and our slogan then was ‘Yes, we can’,” Simba SC spokesperson Haji Manara said.
Simba hinged on Meddie Kagere’s effort to emerge victorious two years ago. The Tanzanian giants also beat Al Ahly 2-1 at home in 1985 when the Egyptian side were the African Cup Winners’ Cup holders.
“Every time we have played against Al Ahly in Tanzania, we have ended up winners,” added Manara.
Lwanga is expected to have a pivotal role at the heart of midfield in coach Didier Gomes da Rosa’s team. “God bless us and protect us,” Lwanga said in a recent post via
Twitter.
Meanwhile, another Ugandan Saidi Kyeyune is an available option for Al Merrikh who host AS Vita.
In Group B, Uganda Cranes’ left-back Joseph Ochaya is expected to feature for DR Congo side TP Mazembe who visit Al Hilal on Wednesday. Cranes’ goalkeeper Salim Jamal plays for Hilal.
