Middle-distance runner
Winnie Nanyondo did not break the four-minute barrier but was impressed with her 1500m display at the IAAF London Diamond League Meet at the weekend.
Her fifth race on the Diamond League circuit saw her finish in fourth place with a time of four minutes and 40 micro-seconds on Saturday in England.
“Not bad,” she said.
“I am very happy with my time,” Nanyondo said early this week. Home girl Laura Muir won the event in a season best time of 3:58.25.
Nanyondo has broken the four-minute barrier once this season with a national record time of 3:59.56 at the Rabat DL in Morocco on June 16.
In a recent interview, the 25-year-old feels ready to compete for the podium come the World Championships due September 28 - October 6 in Doha, Qatar.
“I don’t feel physically any better than before, but the difference is I listen to what others told me: to get on the line and trust your own ability. To believe in myself,” she stated.
In preparations for Doha, Uganda has reaped big with national records broken 15 times by nine athletes in 2019, Winnie Nanyondo doing that four times over the mile and 1500m.
The peak of their performances on the local scene happens at the two-day National Track and Field Championships at Namboole on Friday.
