Liverpool and Everton will be hoping to use Saturday's Merseyside derby as a springboard for the remainder of the 2020-21 English Premier League season.

The Reds head into this weekend's round of league fixtures on a three-game losing streak after going down 3-1 away to Leicester City at King Power Stadium. Even more concerning for the defending champions is the fact that they are winless in five home matches.

Liverpool have fallen 13 points behind leaders Manchester City and manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his team's hopes of retaining the league crown they won last season are all but over.

When asked by Sky Sports News if he had conceded the title, Klopp responded: "Yes. I can't believe [it], but yes.

"I don't think we can close the gap this year, to be honest. We have to win football games, and a large part of our game today [Saturday] was very good.

"What we need to try to avoid are mistakes and misunderstandings. In two situations today we didn't do that and that's how they were allowed to score two goals. Results are massively related to the performance - we were good enough today to win the game apart from a couple of mistakes towards the end.

"We have a tough game on Tuesday [away to RB Leipzig in the Champions League] and then the derby [versus Everton] next week. That's what we're thinking about," he added.

Everton make the short trip to Anfield a few days after hosting Manchester City. The Toffees head into a tough week of fixtures on the back of a 2-0 loss at home to Fulham which has dented their Champions League hopes.

The two rivals played to a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park earlier this season in a match which is remembered for Jordan Pickford's challenge on Virgil van Dijk. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead on two occasions, but Everton conjured a point courtesy of goals from Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Richarlison saw red for Everton late on.
