Legend Mubiru eager to refine Express attack

Hassan Mubiru remains one of the most revered Express players of all time.

Nicknamed 'Figo' the former Red Eagles captain led the Uganda Premier League goal scoring charts for three straight seasons in 2001, 2002 and 2003 with 27, 22 and 16 goals respectively.

Having long retired and now well into another phase as part of coach Wasswa Bbosa’s backroom staff, Mubiru is eager to see the forwards at the club putting up such numbers in the upcoming season.

“It’s so unfortunate Covid-19 has interfered with our plans but not to worry,” Mubiru is quoted having said on the Express official club website.

“I can’t wait to mentor the squad especially the forwards when the time is right.”

“We need as many goals next season and I believe we have the right players to do the job,” he added.

Frank Kalanda was the club’s top scorer last season, finding the back of the net 11 times while Frank Senyondo added seven in what was a memorable debut season in the topflight division.

The departed Disan Galiwango also chipped in with six goals to complete a fearsome trio for the Betway-sponsored side.

Despite finishing ninth, Express were the joint fifth highest scorers in the Uganda Premier League last season scoring 30 goals in 25 games.

The 2019/20 football season was however halted abruptly with five games to go following a government shutdown announced because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

In case sport is allowed to resume, the tentative kick off for the league is 17th October 2020.
