Lando pleased with team discipline ahead of new season

After losing to UCU Canons in the semi-finals of the National Basketball League in 2019, Betway Power management elected to overhaul the team and take a new direction.

Only three players survived the axe as the rest of the team was shown the exit from the five-time champions.

Joseph Ikong, Philip Ameny, Paul Odong, Cyrus Kiviri, Fahmy Ssebatindira, Libe Makala, Samuel Agutu, Geoffrey Soro, and David Opolot were asked to try their luck elsewhere.

With the league set to tip-off April 17, head coach Arnold Lando is happy with his new group of players and can’t wait for the season.

“We have a new group of predominantly young players. They have been told what is expected of them and they are all in line,” Lando told this website in an interview.

“We might not have the big names but we have a hungry group that is coachable and willing to learn,” he added.

It was reported that after winning game one of the series against UCU, most of the Power players failed to turn up for training the next day and what followed were three straight losses that saw them lose the series.

Power are no strangers to criticism over their behaviour off the court, something that has hurt the game on the court over the years.

“Timekeeping and respect are what we are preaching now and it helps that most of our players are almost at the same level.”

Saidi Amisi, Steven Wundi, and Gauthier Badhera are some of the more established names added to the team.

They will be the most experienced of the group alongside Isaac Afidra, Brian Sivachi, and Nasser Guddi.

Arion Osama, Elvis Ssentongo, Tonny Wafula, Salim Kisulu, Patrick Seduge, Joel Maurice, and Adnan Kabuye are the other new faces on the team.

Power will start their season with a clash against KIU Titans and Lando will be happy to see every player doing his best for the team.

Power squad: Arion Osama, Elvis Ssentongo, Guddi Nasser, Tonny Wafula, Salim Kisilu, Isaac Afidra, Brian Sivachi, Saidi Amisi, Patrick Seduge, Steven Wundi, Adnan Kabuye, Joel Morris, Gauthier Badhera.
