Kobs Win National Sevens Championship

Betway Kobs successfully defended their national sevens championship on Saturday after making the finals to bring their total number of points to 110 points.
Having gone into the final circuit with a 2-point advantage over Toyota Buffaloes, Kobs did just enough to ensure the title stayed at Legends. The Legends outfit sailed through their group games including defeating title challengers Buffaloes 12-7 in their last pool game.

The win handed Kobs an easier route to the final as they faced and defeated Rhinos at the semifinal stage. Buffaloes on the other hand fell 31-7 to Heathens in the other semi to rule themselves out of the race. Kobs’ win in the semis was just enough as they edged Heathens to the championship despite losing 26-7 to their rivals to lose the Kitaka Memorial Sevens title.
Kobs season
With the season kicking off at Kyadondo Rugby Club, home to Hima Cement Heathens and Toyota Buffaloes, Kobs made the most of their rivals’ home turf to win the first circuit of the year. Ronnie Lutakome’s charges defeated Buffaloes 12-7 in the final to win the first edition of the series and collect 22 points. The Joseph Aredo led side then took the challenge to the East and still faced off with Buffaloes in the final of the Jinja Sevens at Dam Waters.

With 44 points and on top of the log, Kobs were cruising until the Rujumba Sevens when they failed to make the finals after losing to Buffaloes in the semis. From Legends to Gulu. The dismal collapse deepened as Kobs lost 12-0 to Rhinos at the quarter final stage to lose ground in the title run.
The title challenge moved to Makerere and Kobs leapfrogged Heathens and Buffaloes back to the league summit after making the finals. The two challengers failed to get past the quarterfinal stage and this handed the defending champions a 2-point advantage going into the final leg. Not even a 26-7 loss to Heathens in the final could stop Kobs on final day as they ably defended their title.
