Throughout the first four circuits of the Guinness National Sevens Championship, defending champions Betway Kobs and rivals Hima Cement Heathens have avoided each other and are yet to face off. But, there won’t be such a thing at the fifth leg of the tournament as the two sides are pooled together ahead of the Makerere sevens slated for this weekend.
The two have been drawn together in pool B of the Makerere Sevens and will play each other for the first time this campaign. The two giants are drawn alongside Jinja Hippos and Mbarara. New Table leaders Toyota Buffaloes, the most consistent side thus far, will have to deal with Buzz Pirates, Plascon Mongers and Kyambogo in pool A. Pi currently ranked fourth in the title run.
At the recently concluded Gulu Sevens, Warriors were on the wrong end of the meanest way to lose a rugby game as they lost a coin toss to Heathens after the two sides could not be separated even after extra time.
The Gabriel Aredo led Warriors are placed in pool C alongside Rhinos, Rams and hosts Makerere Impis. In the ladies category, leaders Thunderbirds, Mbale Eagles and Entebbe ladies will all be vying for top honours at the event. Buffalloes top the men’s log with 79 points after four legs while Heathens and Kobs are second and third with 75 and 72 points respectively.
