Betway Power have been City Oilers’ nearest challengers as they romped to six straight
National Basketball League titles.
They five-time champions have been the beaten playoff finalists thrice including last season’s 4-1 series loss.
That record was not lost on Syrus Kiviiri as he made the move last month to
Betway Power in search for another title.
This was after his second stint with Pemba Warriors ended in a disappointing 2-0 quarterfinal series defeat to JKL Dolphins last season.
“Betway Power is a great team. They’ve been to the final more times than my former team and I just wanted a new challenge,” noted Kiviiri who last won the league title with Warriors back in 2012.
In the ensuing period Kiviiri has since become a regular with the national team, Silverbacks and expects to bring that experience to his new team.
“I come with experience I have been in the league for some time. They have been lacking in the way the way they close games,” noted Kiviiri in his first interview with the club.
He also got to watch his new teammates in action for the first time as Power run out 63-53 over KCCA earlier this week.
“They’ve had small guards in the past. I think I’m going to be a good addition to the squad,” he added.
Kiviiri also spoke of a strong desire to win another title just like his new teammates with
Betway Power having last tasted league success in 2011.
“The last time my team won a championship was in 2012 with Warriors. Since then it has been city Oil. So really I don’t need more motivation I really want to win again.”
“The human resource looks good but we can’t only be good on paper we need to show that on the floor when the time comes,” he concluded.
