KCCA eyes revenge against Esperance

By far, KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi insists his side can even do much better when they meet Esperance again in the CAF Champions League on Saturday.

KCCA led 2-0 inside 22 minutes but lost 3-2 at the Stade de Olympiqe during Day Three action of Group A in Rades on July 17.

“We should have won in Tunisia but the boys felt sorry for themselves,” Mutebi would say early this week.

KCCA are now bottom of the Group with three points and it is their head-to-head record that puts them below Botswana’s Township Rollers who have an inferior goal difference.

The Kasasiro Boys head into Match Day 4 with greater intent and determination. Why? They’d never led in North Africa and are home; hence revenge will be on the cards when they host Esperance at Namboole on Saturday.

There had been concerns that KCCA would struggle away from Lugogo but they quickly settled in with goals from Sadam Juma and Timothy Awany in a 2-0 win over record eight-time champions Al Ahly on May 15.

Over the past one year on the continent, KCCA has beaten each side from North Africa that has visited here with list also including Egyptian outfit Al Masry, Tunisian side Club African and Moroccan side FUS Rabat.

Mutebi wants to continue with the trend as they bid to make it out of the Group on the first time of asking.

“It is possible if the boys believe that they can do it,” Mutebi insisted. “We gave a good account of ourselves, showed no fear in Tunisia and now we are home. We must win,” he added.

He is likely to deploy the same starting XI except for one, lone striker Muhammad Shaban is closer to the club’s exit door which affirms that Patrick Kaddu could start.

The midfield will retain Juma, Muzamiru Mutyaba who must up the ante, Gift Ali, Jackson Nunda and highly-rated teenager Allan Okello.

The 1994 and 2011 Caf Champions League winners Esperance picked a point on their first visit in the Group at Al Ahly and coach Khaled Ben Yahia is keen on frustrating the home side.

They lead with seven points but Yahia will need his players like Belel Magri and Saad Gbuir to be clinical enough on the day.
