Simona Halep will be determined to retain her Wimbledon title when she competes at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The Romanian star has been ranked world No. 1 in singles twice in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings between 2017 and 2019 and she is currently ranked third.

Halep, who was born in Constanța, has won two Grand Slam singles titles: the French Open and Wimbledon Championships.

The 29-year-old defeated Serena Williams 6–2, 6–2 to win the Ladies' Singles tennis title at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships.

It took just 56 minutes for Halep to secure victory where she committed only three unforced errors, the fewest on record in a Grand Slam final.

Halep has struggled with injuries this year having withdrawn from last month's Italian Open after tearing a muscle.

Still not recovered from her calf injury, Halep had to withdraw from the 2021 French Open, which will be held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris earlier this month.

However, Halep is hopeful of defending her Wimbledon title despite having withdrawn from this month's Bad- Homburg Open in Germany.

"My leg was still not ready for competition, prompting her withdrawal from the inaugural WTA event. I will keep practicing," Halep said.

"I really want to be able to play Wimbledon, but right now I have to take care of my body."
