Bbosa cites improved mindset as Red Eagles scoop May awards

Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa believes his players are beginning to understand what is at stake as the team returns to action this weekend ahead of the final bend of the season.

Bbosa made the remarks after he was handed the coach of the month award after leading the Red Eagles to five straight victories in May.

“We've been performing well throughout the season, losing only two games. We have tried to drum it in with the players that you have to win every game if we are to win the league title,” Bbosa said of the team’s recent form.

This included a 2-0 win over Police, a 3-2 victory over Kyetume as well as keeping three consecutive clean sheets in the 1-0 win over UPDF, and the 4-0 thrashings of Busoga and Kitara respectively.

Erick Kambalae has played a pivotal role in that run that has ensured Express are top of the 16-team log with 58 points, one ahead of URA and two in front of reigning league champions Vipers with four games left to play.

The striker has scored eight goals in that five-game sequence to take his tally to 15, one behind leading marksman Yunus Sentamu.

The feat also earned him the May player of the month accolade that like Bbosa was accompanied by a shs1m cash prize.

His form also earned him a call up to the senior national team Cranes although he subsequently missed out on making his Cranes debut after returning a positive Covid-19 test in the lead up to the international friendly against South Africa earlier this month.
