Betway Kobs setting pace in national 7s

When the National Sevens Championship kicked off at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds two weeks ago, Betway Kobs were tipped as favourites to dislodge defending champions Black Pirates.

The two sides eventually faced off in the final of the circuit and Kobs ran out winners to take maximum points.

Pius  Ogena, Adrian Kasito, Ian Munyani and Justin Kimono were all in top form on the day.

The series then moved to Masaka for the first ever event at the Buddu Rugby Grounds.

Pirates and Betway Kobs were still the teams in the final and the latter came from behind to win 12-07 to level matters.

Pirates relied on their numerical advantage in the second half to come back and seal victory with Kelvin Balagadde scoring a brace while Pius Ogena was in the sin bin.

Pirates' victory in Masaka means the two sides are now ties at 41 points going into the third circuit of the championship.

The third circuit will be hosted by Pirates at their King's Park grounds in Bweyogerere.

Having finished last season as runners up, Betway Kobs now have their eyes on claiming the overall title at the end of the season.

Prior to last season, Kobs had won the title three years in a row.
