Onduparaka signs striker Muwonge

Onduparaka’s eternal problems during last season centred on putting the ball in the back of the net.

The club vividly struggled to cope with the departure of Muhammad Shaban to KCCA last August and consequently finished with 28 goals, five short of their tally in the 2016-17 season.

When Shaban left, coach Livingstone Mbabazi tried options in Karim Ndugwa, Ceaser Okhuti and Alfred Leku.

Following Mbabazi’s departure, Simeone Masaba’s start was solid enough thanks to Yafeesi Mubiru but most importantly Vianney Ssekajugo.

“True, we are looking some players to bring into the team,” Masaba told this website shortly after the season Onduparaka had finished fourth behind Vipers, KCCA and SC Villa.

Now Masaba and the club management are already reacting. The latest in the transfer window shows Onduparaka signed striker Amis Muwonge from Masindi’s Dove Football Club.

He joined the Arua-based club on a three-year contract having helped Dove gain promotion to the Fufa Big League with 26 goals.

The 21-year-old will don jersey number 10 and perhaps will be the face to make the diehards at the Betway Green Light Stadium fully come to terms with Shaban’s departure.

Shaban was best striker for Onduparaka two seasons ago with 15 goals but Ssekajugo only managed eight last season, notwithstanding the team’s improvement from fifth to fourth.
