Friday: Betway Power vs. KIU Titans
Sunday: Betway Power vs. Ndejje University
Betway Power will by late Sunday evening be left with one first round
National Basketball League game.
And if results go their way that would mean an extension to a 10-0 start to the season.
But despite the bright prospects, coach Anrold “Mchuda” Lando believes his team has not been at their best.
“We have been below par. A few individuals have stepped up different times so we have won games because we have a big team. But the capacity we have not done our best,” Mchuda opined about his team’s fast start to the season.
He consequently expects the five-time champions to raise their game further when they play title hopefuls KIU Titans this evening at YMCA in a clash of teams with the best records in the top division thus far.
“A win gives us a good points advantage over them and we would finish top of the first round which is good for our confidence,” Mchuda reckoned.
Betway Power boast a league best 8-0 record while KIU have only fared slightly worse at 7-1.
“Their team is full of guards and they have good shooters so we shall be looking to win the second chances because we are bigger,” he added.
The clash also pits the two teams who are expected to challenge City Oilers for this season’s title with the Titans having been swept in last season’s playoff finals while Betway Power fell at the semifinal stage.
“We want to concentrate more on how to better ourselves rather than our opponents’ strengths or weaknesses,” opined KIU coach Brian Wathum.
After Friday’s clash, Betway Power return to action on Sunday against Ndejje University before winding up their first round games against JKL Dolphins next Friday.
They will again be missing influential forward Joseph Ikong who is with the Silverbacks team preparing for World Cup qualifiers in Nigeria.
KIU meanwhile have a game 24 hours later against a UCU side with a 4-4 record but which has won three of their last four games.
The Mukono team are again expected to be without coach Nicholas Natuhereza who is with the national Under 18 teams. UCU then winds up their first round games against Our Saviour on Sunday.
The latter meanwhile also play City Oilers on Saturday with the five-time champions still without the trio of James Okello, Jimmy Enabu and Stephen Omony who are with the Silverbacks.
Having endured an indifferent start to the season with a 6-3 sequence, the Oilers then conclude their first round against Sharing Youth on Sunday.
