Lady Rugby Cranes demolish Zimbabwe

RUGBY AFRICA WOMEN’S CUP:
Uganda 41-00 Zimbabwe

Uganda Lady Rugby Cranes overcame an unhurried start to pummel Zimbabwe 41-00 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds on Wednesday.

The hosts started on the back seat with Zimbabwe asking questions albeit with no bite to breach the Cranes defence line.

The Lady Rugby Cranes shook off the nerves and went on to dominate on home soil.

Samiya Ayikoru went over for Uganda’s first try of the game but veteran Charlotte Mudoola failed to add the extras.

Leonard Lubambula’s charges dominated the scrum to keep the visitors on the back foot most of the game and Emily Lekuru scored Uganda’s second try off one of the scrummages to have the Cranes leading 10-00 at the long break.

The second half produced a more expansive game from the hosts and they ran in five tries to register a comprehensive win on the day.

Peace Lekuru fed off a Julie Nandawula and Charlotte Mudoola combination to touch down.

Grace Auma, Emily Lekuru, Peace Lekuru and Aisha Nakityo completed the scoring in the second period.

The Lady Rugby Cranes were playing rugby for the first time since their loss to Kenya in Kisumu 2019.

The two sides are slated to face off again on Sunday, July 18 at the same ground.
