Jas Mangat wins in Kasanda, Kikankane maintains NRC lead

Jas Mangat displayed his magic yet again and came out on top at the end of the Kasanda rally held in Mityana district over the weekend.

The Pili Pili driver, alongside his navigator Joseph Kamya hit the ground running from the first stage and completed the event in one hour, 23 minutes and 34 seconds.

Having sat out the start of the season last year, Mangat is still faced with a tough challenge in the National Rally Championship (NRC) chase.

The crew of Duncan Mubiru and Musa Nsubuga enhanced their championship credentials by finishing second in the event and ensuring they remained top of the log after four rounds.

The Kikankane crew were two minutes and 25 seconds off Mangat but will have their eyes on the bigger picture and know that completing events might be enough to land the championship.

Rajiv Ruparelia and Enoch Olinga managed to cross the finish line this time round, completing the three podium places.

Title chasing Hassan Alwi finished fourth to go second on the NRC log with 230points, 40 behind Mubiru.

Early championship leaders Fred Busulwa and Joseph Bongole are now third on the championship log after finishing fifth on Saturday.

In Clubman rally championship (CRC), Mark Lubega and Unissan Bakunda raced to their maiden victory in the category.

The crews were treated to two types of weather and notes had to change later in the event following a sudden heavy downpour.
