Inter will be aiming to close the gap on rivals Milan when they take on Cagliari in a 2020-21 Serie A match on Sunday afternoon.
Nerazzurri remain five points adrift of the league leaders following a 3-1 win over Bologna last time out, in a game in which Achraf Hakimi netted a brace. Inter are unbeaten in six league fixtures since losing to Milan but will close the gap between themselves and their city rivals down to two -- even if only for a few hours -- with victory in Cagliari.
Head coach Antonio Conte was delighted with how his team performed against Bologna last weekend and will be aiming to lead his side to a fourth straight win.
"We were determined and attentive. There was maximum respect for Bologna, also with what happened a few months ago in mind," said Conte who's team had lost to Bologna a few months earlier.
"The lads know that they need to keep their concentration levels high, because when we do so it becomes difficult to play against us. If we don’t do this, we concede avoidable goals. It was a really important match for us in terms of building confidence. I’d like to compliment the group on the performance.”
Cagliari are winless in three matches following a 1-1 draw away to Hellas Verona in their most recent outing and
Gli Isolani head into this weekend's fixture in 11th spot on the league standings.
The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 2-1 win for Inter. Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku either side of a Joao Pedro strike secured all three points for the visitors.
