Joseph Ikong believes his team have the right mix of players to help
Betway Power end their eight-year drought of winning the National Basketball League title.
The five time champions hold a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three quarterfinal series against JKL Dolphins after the two teams finished with identical 15-7 records in the regular season.
“I believe that power could easily win this title this year for different reasons,” Ikong said in an interview that was aired on NTV at the start of the week.
“We’ve always had mismatches on the floor when we are playing. In Syrus Kiviiri we have covered very many of those mismatches. The players are more aware of what is needed and the sponsors need results. Our family members friends and fans want us to win,” he added.
Ikong also talked of a change in the players’ mentality in a period he described as fun for the supporters but serious work for the team.
“So it is time to step up and be serious. thethe players are serious. I’ve been there at the training sessions and witnessed it. The sponsors have given us whatever we need.
Sometimes when they give you all you need then the ball is in your court and you have to win but sport is sport. You can give it your best give it your fight and not win and you can always give your best and wait for the outcome,” he further explained.
Betway Power fans will hope the talked about change in attitude is on show this evening when they face JKL on Friday evening in game two following last weekend’s dominant 74-35 game one victory.

“JKL is a very good team they finished among the top four teams. They have good players like Brian Namake who plays for the Kenyan team, Ivan Lumanyika and then Brian Muramba. But for us as power we said these are the playoffs lets go out there, play the best we can play lets improve our defense.
Give it our all, play the best we can play. Let’s make sure we play in the semifinals. So for us it is defense hard work and the desire to win, we want to win,” he emphasized.
