Huddersfield v Reading Championship Playoff Final Preview

Championship Playoff Final
Huddersfield Town v Reading

Wembley Stadium, London
16h00 CAT

A place in the Premier League is on the line when Huddersfield Town and Reading meet in the Championship playoff final at Wembley Stadium in London this afternoon, kick-off at 16h00 CAT.

Huddersfield overcame Sheffield Wednesday on penalties after the teams drew 1-1 on aggregate in their semifinal, while Reading edged Fulham 2-1 over two legs to book their spot in the final.

The Terriers have not been in the top flight of English football since the early 1970s and a promotion to the Premier League would represent a wonderful achievement for coach David Wagner and his team, who finished last season in a lowly 19th place on the Championship log last term.Yet the same can be said of Reading, who have transformed into a fluid, easy-on-the-eye Dutch style side under the management of former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam. The Royals have had three previous seasons in the Premier League in the past decade, though they have failed to secure promotion via the playoffs in their three appearances in either the semifinals or final this century.

Huddersfield and Reading have met in 21 matches across all competitions, with the latter having a slight edge with nine wins compared to eight losses. The teams clashed twice in the 2016/17 Championship and each won their home game 1-0.
