Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will be looking to start his Formula One title defence with a win at the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28.

The British superstar is looking to set new records in the 2021 season having won a joint-record seven World Drivers' Championship titles (tied with Michael Schumacher) last season.

Hamilton, who won last year's Bahrain Grand Prix title, holds the outright records for the most wins (95), pole positions (98) and podium finishes (165).

In February 2021, Hamilton signed a contract to continue racing for the team in 2021 and he is now looking to become the first driver to win five Bahrain Grand Prix titles.

Hamilton will equal Schumacher’s record of winning one race per year in 15 consecutive seasons if he wins one race in the new season.

The 36-year-old will become the first driver to win nine times in the same race and at the same track if he wins the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Schumacher also holds the record for most win, pole and fastest lap hat-tricks, which Hamilton needs four more to reach.

The Mercedes legend is also two shy of Jim Clark’s 53-year-old record for most ‘grand slams’ of win, pole and fastest lap plus leading every lap of the race.

Hamilton is wary of Red Bull Racing-Honda as he believes their driver Max Verstappen will be one of the contenders for the Drivers' Championship title.

“They're looking strong. They've had some really good running. Max is looking, and both the drivers I think, have been looking quite strong," Hamilton said.

“They're going to be a different machine or animal this year with, I think, a real good strong line-up of the two drivers, and I think, a really good car.

“Having seen them win the last race, you can only assume they're going to be right there, if not at the front, of the first race. It's going to be a great long battle with them through the year.”
