Frank Kalanda expects better for Express next season

Express FC finished ninth in the Startimes Uganda Premier league last season as the COVID-19 pandemic brought proceedings to premature end.

For the Red Eagles, finishing ninth was an improvement compared to the previous seasons but forward Frank Kalanda is convinced the team is capable of more.

"We expect a better and respectable finish in the 2020/21 season," Kalanda revealed recently.

Machete, as he fondly referred to in football circles, combined well with Disan Galiwango and Frank Ssenyondo to terrorise defenses last season.

He managed a total of eleven goals to his name as Express collected 31 points from 25 games to avoid relegation talk.

“I worked hard last season but not hard enough and although as a team we weren’t happy with our league finish I think we have no excuse next season,” Kalanda told the club website recently.

The football club, under Wasswa Bbosa, is expected to undergo major surgery with several changes in the playing staff but Kalanda is one of those expected to stay.

He is looking forward to playing alongside the new players who he hopes will be good enough to help the club compete for silverware.

“The team will definitely have new faces but I want to assure the fans that we’re ready to work as a unit and compete. This will be a different side next season."

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) set October 17th as the tentative date for the return of football in the country.

All that will, however, depend on the advice from the ministry of health in regards to the  Corona Virus pandemic.
