Four Betway Kobs stars named on national sevens team

Betway Kobs will be represented by four players on the national Sevens team at the inaugural World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series.

Head head coach Tolbert Onyango named the twelve-man squad for the tournament on Wednesday.

Pius Ogena, Adrian Kasito, Ian Munyani and Nobert Okeny are the four players from the Uganda Cup and national Sevens champions.

The trio of Ogena, Munyani and Kasito has been mainstays on the team while Okeny is slowly finding his footing in the squad.

The team features familiar faces from the previous tournaments with Michael Wokorach still tasked with captaining the team.

Solomon Okia is back from his injury setback and will add pace and power to the side. Levis Ocen, William Nkore and Isaac Massa also made the cut.

The squad kicked off training on January 8, 2020 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, and have been undergoing intensive drills on pitch and gym in preparation for this tournament.

The team will compete with 15 other national teams over two rounds of the newly-introduced tournament in South America.

The first round will be in Viña del Mar, Chile from February 15-16, 2020 while the second will be in Montevideo, Uruguay a week later.

The top 8 teams from these two rounds will take part in the final tournament in Hong Kong after which the winner will get promoted to the World Rugby Sevens Series.
