Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of Uganda have written to world motorsport governing body, FIA, indicating the need to postpone the Ugandan leg of the Pearl of Africa Rally.
With the Corona Virus pandemic wreaking havoc globally, FMU activities have had to come to a standstill following government's position to stop all public gatherings.
"Discussions were held with the FMU Executive and supporting Partners, who all agreed with us that the economic downturn, restrictions on movement, all cannot allow us to run the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally to the standards required for a world-class event," FMU revealed in a statement made on Thursday.
Some of the events on the FMU calendar have already been cancelled and the federations will wait to reschedule them once there's a green light from government in regards to sports and public gatherings.
The Ugandan round of the African Rally series was slated for August 14-16.
"It's our responsibility to follow government orders not to gather, and work with government to fight the current pandemic and to support them in the quest to save lives," the statement adds.
"We cannot anticipate when the ban on social gathering will ever be lifted and so we can only wait for things to normalize to resume preparations. Based on this, we wrote to FIA Africa and requested to reschedule the event to next year."
The ARC is the only event FMU have talked about in the direction of postponing and will try and continue with the National Championship once things normalize.
Locally, Fred Busulwa leads the drivers' standings with 130 points after two rounds. He is followed by Omar Mayanja on 110 while Hassan Alwi won the Jinja rally to go third with 100 points.
