After exchanging leads with Vipers over the past three match-days, Express have a chance to put some daylight between them and their nearest pursuers when they travel to Bombo to play UPDF on Tuesday evening in the Uganda Premier League.
This follows Express picking up a 1-0 win over Busoga United on Friday to move to 28 points from 12 games.
The result, coupled with Vipers' loss to Mbarara means the Red Eagles remain the only unbeaten side left in the league and can go four points clear at the top with victory today depending on results elsewhere over the next 24 hours.
Tuesday’s game won’t be easy because the opponents (UPDF) lost 6 – 1 (vs KCCA FC) so they’ll want to come all out,” assistant head coach James Odoch noted ahead of the game.
“But we’ve prepared well especially our finishing, we know we have to score more which we’ve worked on,” he added.
Express however go into the game against UPDF with a growing list of injuries.
Left-back Arthur Kiggundu has been ruled out for up to six weeks after picking up a partial tear ligament on his left leg during the 1-0 win over Busoga United, Sadiq Ssekyembe is expected to fill the void.
Pacey midfielder Charles Musiige is also a doubt after picking up a strain on the buttocks muscle in the same game.
They join forward George Senkaaba who is also expected to be out for more than a month.
In his absence, Frank Kalanda appears to have embraced the goal-scoring burden netting winners in the last two games against Busoga and Kitara respectively.
They play a UPDF side that is seventh with 18 points but lost their past two games including a 6-1 thrashing by KCCA over the weekend.
Express FC won the last contest between the two sides in April 2018, the 2-0 home win was sealed with goals from Michael Birungi and Jalil Zimula.
