Express FC will be looking to earn the bragging rights when they host traditional rivals SC Villa at the Betway Mutessa II Stadium on Saturday in match-day five of this season’s Uganda Premier League.
The Red Eagles are winless in the last six encounters against their adversaries with the last victory having come in the shape of a 1-0 home win in 2017.
But following one of the most structured pre-seasons in over decades, there is optimism going into the club’s second home game of the season.
The Wasswa Bbosa- coached side have collected five points from the opening three games and will be seeking a second successive home victory having started out with a 2-1 win over Bright Stars last week.
The most prominent feature from the three games Express has played this season has been a fast start from their opening three games this season.
This included an 11th minute Frank Kalanda goal in the 1-all draw away to Onduparaka while the striker and his partner Eric Kambale also scored in the opening seven minutes of the 2-1 win over Bright Stars.
Godfrey Lwesibawa meanwhile scored a 23rd minute freekick before conceding in the second half to draw against Mbarara.
“One of the things we have been working on since the Mbarara game is improving our finishing. We have to be calmer in front of goal if we are to defeat SC Villa.
We are also keen on reducing the number of goals we concede because that has happened in very game so far this season.
The return of our captain Enock Walusimbi should also help us in that regard,” Express coach Wasswa Bbosa noted.
Express will on the other hand be without Mahad Kakooza, Ibrahim Kayiwa and Charles Musiige who are all injured.
They play a Villa side that is fifth, just two places above them following a 2-1 win over another traditional heavyweight club KCCA on Tuesday.
