Express start Uganda Cup with stalemate

Kyetume 2-2 Express

This year's Uganda Cup action started at an advanced stage due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Only teams from the Uganda Premier League and the FUFA Big League are taking part in the tournament that started at the round of 32.

Express FC is one of the teams involved in top-flight clashes at this stage and started their campaign with a 2-2 draw away to Kyetume.

On-form forward Eric Kambale salvaged a draw for the visitors to ensure they carry two important away goals into the home tie.

The Red Eagles started twice had to come from behind after a spirited Kyetume looked to be running away with the game.

Ezra Kaye gave the hosts the lead inside the first six minutes after connecting well with Julius Ntambi’s cross.

Express leveled through midfielder John Byamukama seven minutes later.

Kyetume got their second goal on 61 minutes as Raymond Walugembe rose to head home past Express custodian Denis Otim.

Substitute Kambale headed in a late equalizer to see spoils shared.

The return leg is scheduled for 10th April 2021 at the Betway Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku and a goalless draw would be enough for the Red Eagles to progress.
